Right now I am working with a number of clients on natural ways they can boost their immune system. While I am certainly a fan of boosting supplementation this time of year for Vitamin C, Zinc and D3/K2 (liquid form of D3/K2 is the most bio-available), there are also a handful of ways we can naturally support our immune system.
My top suggestions are:
✨ Add ginger and turmeric to everything: Ginger and turmeric are amazing because they are both anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. Add them to hot water for tea and to any and all recipes for warmth.
✨ Indulge in a few oysters: Oysters are one of the highest sources of zinc and are also naturally packed with Vitamins B12 and D. Like anything good in life, oysters should be enjoyed in moderation. Not a seafood eater? Try pumpkin seeds as they are also a very high natural source of zinc.
✨ Reduce your booze: Drinking significantly decreases your immune response and can reduce antibodies that fight off infection. Keep alcohol to a minimum or to zero this time of year, and especially if you are fighting something.
✨ Hydration, hydration, hydration: This one can’t be stressed enough. Aim to drink half your body weight in oz of water as hydration is essential for flushing out bugs and toxins, as well as keeping bodily systems working at full capacity. One of my techniques to help clients drink enough water is sandwiching – having a glass of water before and after each meal + 1 snack every day.
✨ Create Immune Booster Bombs (recipe below): I got this recipe from a fellow nutritionist and love how easy these are to make. Simply add them to hot water and sip away!
What tips and tricks do you use to stay healthy during the winter months? I’d love to hear!
