As the months get warmer and the sun more intense, here are some of my must haves as we spend more and more time outside. These products will help you stay cool, hydrated, protected from the sun and even a yummy (and healthy) recipe to enjoy as dessert.
Why I love it: I have sampled my fair share of sunscreens over the years given my pale skin. Elta MD is hands down the best quality. Your skin is never left feeling oily or thick with white zinc, and I have never burned with Elta MD (as long as you reapply as needed). If you aren’t looking for full strength coverage but want some lighter protection, Elta MD has a number of other products that are lighter coverage, tinted color, full body, etc. You can’t go wrong with this brand!
Why I love it: One of my favorite summer activities is playing pickle ball outside. Okay, hear me out on this one. I realize visors may not be the “coolest” look, but isn’t sun protected skin the new tan? This wide brimmed visor is easy to roll up and pack, comfy to wear, and if you’re like me and have a big head, the back is velcro so it fits any and all shapes and sizes. Dermatologists recommend a minimum of a 3” visor for complete facial protection, and this gem has a 4” visor = 100% covered! Best part is: it’s only $15.
Why I love it: Many common sport drinks and electrolyte packs are full of sugar and artificial colors – the last thing we should be putting in our bodies when we are depleted. When we sweat, we lose both water and sodium. LMNT has zero sugar or other added junk, and is carefully created to provide optimal ratios of sodium, potassium, and magnesium. They also have delicious flavors.
Why I love it: Sometimes I struggle to drink enough water. Maybe it’s a busy day, maybe I forget my water bottle at home or maybe I’m just not feeling thirsty. I’m usually pretty anti-phone and technology for overall wellness, but this free app is an exception. It’s a great way to receive notifications to drink more based on your bio individual needs, the climate you are in and your daily schedule. It can even track your caffeine intake and adjust accordingly. It’s a pretty safe bet we could all use more water, and this app is a useful tool in getting there.
Why I love it: I realize just the title of this recipe may have made you say “huh?”. But I promise this combination of avocado and lime, blended into a refreshing pudding is the perfect summer dessert. I topped mine with coconut whipped cream and some toasted nuts. It almost tastes like a reinvented version of key lime pie. Feel free to adjust the sweetener to your liking, and try healthy alternatives like a little monk fruit, stevia, coconut sugar, or maple syrup.
